Description

This is a paper collage project that will link science with art. It will also enable students to give their winged subjects an artistic flair by using Fiskars products with paper.

Objectives

  • Students review the elements and principles of design that apply to this project, such as shape, color, value and pattern.
  • Students realize that subjects from nature are artworks in themselves.
  • Students learn to experiment with textural tools to enhance their designs.

Instructions

Discuss the fact that science subjects from nature, such as insects, are very artistic and beautiful works of art.

Have students make large sketches of insects stressing the use of good design.

Let them know that the sketches will be used as templates for an insect made from Sax® Art Paper.

Have students experiment with Fiskars® Edgers, Crimpers and Border Punches on paper to test the effects of these tools on the parts of their insect designs.

Using the large sketches as templates, cut the insect parts out of the Sax® Art Paper.

Use the Fiskars® tools to enhance the insect parts and give texture to the work.

Add Crayola® Glitter Glue to enhance the parts further.

Add Scratch-Art® 3D-O?s to raise body parts from the background papers for more dimension.

Punch, crimp, and cut the background papers with the Fiskars® tools.

Glue the insect to the background.
