Edvotek Cholesterol Diagnostics Kit contains instructions, ready-to-load quickstrip DNA samples, ultraspec-agarose powder, practice gel loading solution, electrophoresis buffer, instastain blue and flash blue stain, calibrated pipet and microtipped transfer pipettes. A disease known as familial hypercholesterolemia causes an increase in blood levels of bad form of cholesterol, known as low density lipoprotein. In this experiment, a simulated genetic test for FH is demonstrated in which patients are tested for a DNA polymorphism linked to the FH gene.
